We’re wasting valuable, you’re wasting time, listening to people and not following what God put you on earth to do.

How many of you can say they freely live following their dreams and goals?

These days I ask every day, am I living life according to my terms and conditions or according to what standards someone else set?

The moment you realise you’re wasting time worrying, hating, gossiping, fearing, pleasing others and not yourself is the moment you will come to realise how much time we waste worrying over nonsense.

What’s the reason God put you on earth? Why?

Realising your purpose and getting up to do it every single morning is the most fulfilling way you can spend your time on earth.

Time on earth is short and before you know it, life gets snatched from you under your eyes.

I wasted time, thinking of what will that one say about me in this situation?

The others you think about are too worried to think about you and your problems.

People have enough problems to pay attention to you; pay attention to yourself.

Time is valuable and how you use it you will thank time or regret for the rest of your life.

Have you ever discovered that people who never spent the time wisely are the gossip mongers sitting on fear and they will help you waste your time if you allow by creating insecurities within you?

At 21, I found myself worried sick about finding my life purpose in knowing who God created me to be.

I have been in the darkest pits because of this.

I struggle with a lot of things.

I can spend an entire day trying to work around my schedule but when I lay my head to sleep at night, I think about how much I’ve wasted my time and I could’ve probably been more productive.

I cannot tell you that I have reached where I want to be in life, but I can share with you the steps that I’m taking to stop wasting time and become who God created me to be.

If you’re struggling to stay true to your purpose, resetting your mindset and having a productive morning, don’t forget to either comment below or write to me on GERTRUDE DOT AKINYI AT GMAIL DOT COM

Why Do I Keep Wasting Time?

I’ll tell you my story, when I find myself unproductive and feeling like I’m wasting time, it is usually because of the following reasons.

Distractions

Social media is one of the biggest distractions in our lives. I can attest to that. I can say, our smartphones are the real culprit behind this.

There are a lot of entertaining things and people available online and we spend too much precious time jumping from one platform to the next, wasting time.

Lack of motivation

When you feel unmotivated or too tired to do anything, you end up wasting a lot of time just lazing about, doing nothing in particular.

Nothing thrills you or excites you and you have no goals that can get you up and running.

Being too comfortable

When you find yourself too comfortable with your life, then it means you are not moving, you are actually wasting time.

Insufficient sleep

Getting enough sleep is very essential if you want to be productive during the day.

If you do not get sufficient sleep, you end up wasting a lot of time getting ready, taking naps in between and dragging yourself while performing tasks.

Stress

When you are feeling stressed about something, you will end up wasting your time worrying about things that you actually have no control over.

How Do I Waste Time?

We all waste time in different ways.

Sometimes I would not know if I was wasting time, but as I was doing some deep analysis, this is what I came up with. Perhaps it resonates with you too.

Worrying about things we cannot control

I am an overthinker.

When something bothers me, I tend to overdo it by analysing and evaluating how I can change things.

I end up wasting a lot of time just thinking, while actually doing nothing.

Spending too much time on social media

Social media is highly addictive.

You can start from one Instagram, look at the pictures and videos of famous celebrities then hop on to other platforms without stopping.

Being caught up in problems that have no impact on our lives

When you want to be a part of a problem that has nothing to do with you or your future, you waste time.

Procrastinating

Procrastination means putting aside work you can do now, for later.

This you do without any solid reason. You are wasting time.

Gossiping

Spending time talking about people instead of discussing ideas is also another way of wasting time.

Complaining

Do not be a whiner.

If you see something that you don’t like, you can go out there and change instead of wasting time complaining.

Not saying “NO”

If you keep on saying yes to nearly everything and everyone, you end up getting caught up in situations that are meaningless and are bound to waste your time.

Living a life you do not like

If you are living a life you are not comfortable living in and you keep on, then you are wasting your time

Being comfortable where you are

Once you get out of your comfort zone, you will start discovering new things and ideas that can help you achieve more. Do not settle.

Being disorganized

If you are not organised in what you do, then it means you will be wasting a lot of time just getting yourself ready.

Too much socializing

Spending a lot of time around busy crowds is one way to waste time, especially if you are not having worthwhile conversations that can build you up. If your friends are a part of this, you may consider spending less time with them or cutting them off.

Attending unnecessary meetings

There are meetings that will downright waste your time and you do not have to be a part of them

Lack of a morning routine

Since establishing my morning routine, I found myself working less than 20 hours a day.

I started asking, where and how do I waste my time each day and how can I make that hour or minute working or praising minute?

Having no purpose

A purpose serves as a guide and motivation

Doing things for the sake of money

Money may seem like a motivator. Money is the reason we rush to get jobs we don’t care for, right?

What are the Dangers of Wasting Time?

If you keep on wasting time, you will not get the best out of your life and you will keep on beating yourself up in the future, thinking that you had a shot at making things better but you blew it.

These are the negative effects you will experience when you waste time.

  1. Failure to achieve your goals. Time is so precious. Every minute you spend should be geared towards achieving your goals. If you waste your time, you will beat yourself up in the future for failing to meet your goals with the many opportunities that you were given.
  1. Negative outlook towards life. Once you have failed to achieve your goals, you will start feeling like life is meaningless and there you have no business being in this rat race. All your dreams will be killed.
  1. Stress. If you harbour negative thoughts about yourself and think about your failures, you will easily get stressed about other things and this may lead to poor mental health, which results in depression.
  1. Addiction to procrastination. Once you start procrastinating, there is no going back. Even if you still end up getting work done, it will not be as efficient.
  1. Poor multitasking skills. If you keep on wasting your time on unimportant things, you will not be able to beat deadlines on multiple projects and this can be detrimental to your success.

How Do I Stop Wasting Time?

When I wanted to start developing habits that I knew could make me become the person God created me to be, my first decision was to stop wasting time and live each day of my life with purpose.

This is what I’d recommend for you if you want to stop wasting time and be more productive.

Set goals

If there is something that you want to achieve in life, have it down as a goal. You go for small achievable goals or take moonshots. Anything to get you up and running in the morning.

Have priorities

If you have so many things that you have to handle in a day, you can prioritise them according to what’s important to you. This will help you to spend more time on meaningful tasks and projects.

Keep a schedule

Create a timetable or write down in a notebook what you are planning to do for the day. With this, you have a made-up mind of what is required from you for the next day and you are less likely to waste time.

Hold yourself accountable

Make sure you make an account of everything that you did in the day and find out why you didn’t do what was required of you.

Taking accountability means you are more disciplined.

Get rid of distractions.

Quit social media, avoid watching your favourite shows.

These are very good time wasters.

Once you cut down on the time you spend on these platforms, you will have saved a lot of time.

Have a plan

Make a plan of your life goals and how you want to achieve them.

You should also outline clear strategies on how you can overcome any challenges that you face along the way.

Handle difficult tasks first

When you have handled tasks that will require more time and are more difficult, then you can siku do the simpler tasks with much ease.

Track your time.

Keep a record of progress on how you spend your time so that you won’t end up wasting it.

Be Who God Created You To Be

Growing up, I’ve often heard people say “God, make me who you want me to be”.

Looking back, I thought it was just a casual statement, but the older I grew up, I realised how much depth and meaning that statement has.

I am a firm believer that God has created us for a purpose.

We all have a task to do on earth before we die.

The earlier you discover this, the better for you.

Some of these purposes could be to live a successful life that is inspirational to people, travel the world, making good connections to provide for your family.

If you do not know who God created you to become, then I’ll tell you that your identity is in Him.

I often ask myself who I am, where I belong and what I can do on earth to feel fulfilled.

God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you.

Plans to bring you prosperity and a future you hope for.”

Becoming who God created you to be is the most fulfilling thing you will achieve in your life.

Why Should I Become Who God Created Me To Be?

This is why it is important to find your identity in God.

Fulfilment

When you know what your purpose is in life, you will feel like you have achieved something great and you will find fulfilment in it.

You will find happiness

I have seen people who are happy once they have discovered what it is that God created them to be.

You will impact others. Once you know your purpose in life, you can be an inspiration to others who are also on their self-discovery journey and you can help them be where you are.

Heavenly rewards

As a Christian, you will be rewarded in the afterlife once you have purposefully lived your life according to how God wanted you to live.

How Do I Uncover Who God Created Me To Be?

When you do not know who God wants you to become, you can gain insight by doing the following.

Building your relationship with God

Start having a connection with God. He is the master planner.

The author and finisher of your race.

Talk to Him and ask Him to uncover what your purpose in life is.

This you can do through reading the Bible and praying consistently and sincerely.

Praying about your talents, skills and passion

When you are praying, discover the talents that God has bestowed upon you and ask Him how you can use those talents and skills to become who He created you to be.

If you have a talent for singing, you can write good gospel songs that will be a source of hope for many people.

Doing a self-analysis

Ask yourself who you are, what your personality is and delve into the psychological aspects of your life.

This will help you understand yourself and know why you are the way you are.

Not comparing yourself with others

Each and every one of us is unique in our own way.

Do not look at yourself and think you are lesser or better than others.

In everything, you do carry yourself out with humility and know that you are created in the image and likeness of God.

How Do I Become Who God Created Me To Be?

God calls us to find our identity through Him. This is how you can leave a purposeful life and become who God created you to be.

Reading God’s word

Read the Bible.

It is enriching.

You will get a lot of insight and a deeper perspective on life and everything in it.

This is one way to know you are about to become who God created you to be.

Create a routine to read God’s word regularly so that you may always feel a close presence to Him.

Praying

They say prayer is talking to God.

Go down on your knees and make your needs known to him.

Tell him what you want and how you would wish to find your identity in Him.

Building faith in a community of believers

We were called into this earth as a community.

Leverage the connections you have with friends and family and see how you can build each other in your walk with Christ.

Hopefully, God has called you to become a leader.

Tips on How To Stop Wasting Time and Becoming Who God Created You To Be

When I decided to change my life for the better, I sought advice from my older friends and mentors and asked them to help me in my life-changing journey.

They gave me some pretty good advice, some of which I hold dearly to date.

I am going to share with you some useful tips on how you can stop wasting time and become who God created you to be.

If you follow these tips, you will start leading a productive life that you will be happy about every day.

Stay off the Internet

The Internet offers a lot of distractions.

Take some time off social media and read a book instead.

It is good for the mind.

Platforms like Instagram and Facebook are very distracting and can waste a lot of your time if you are not careful.

Create your own deadlines

If you have been given work to complete at a certain date, you can set your own deadline earlier so that you can complete the work in time.

Start your day with the intention

Know what you want to do for the day.

Have a mantra that will keep you focused and motivated until you achieve your goals.

Be aware of the times you slack off and address solutions to these problems

Knowing when you start getting tired can make you go for helpful options like taking a quick walk instead of taking a nap.

Evaluate all your day’s activities and cancel those which are not important

Sometimes we clutter our schedules with useless things that do not help our future.

Stay focused on your work

Do not postpone or cancel the work that you are supposed to cover for the day.

Work on it until you finish.

Be proactive

Do not let the external factors dictate your mood for whether you should be productive or not.

Set short goals

Start with small attainable goals, so that you do not waste a lot of time going for bigger goals when you are not fully prepared.

Paying attention to everyone else but never to you

If you don’t need God then you haven’t found your one thing

So what’s your one thing?

Realise God has you where you’re for a reason

You don’t have time

You choose what you want to do with your time

You have enough time to fulfil your purpose: God’s purpose

Someone above you watches you

Tell everyone what you will do: take action

Practices to Help You Become Who God Created You To Be

Here is some advice if you want to know who God created you to be.

Aside from reading the Bible and praying, you can always do these practices to open your mind and heart to God’s wisdom and let Him guide you.

Do not hold on to your past

God has forgiven your sins.

You need to look into the present and trust in God’s unending love and will over your life.

God will work on you and you will be His people.

Seek honest feedback from others

Let others tell you what they think of you and do not get defensive even if the comments are not as good.

Embrace constructive criticism and use that to make better friendships with people.

Be self-aware and transparent

Know who you are. You have to go deeper into your traits and personalities and be open to yourself about your identity.

Take time to regain perspective

Once you have taken in people’s advice and have looked into different opinions about you, it’s time for you to take some time off to regain your perspective on who you are and what you want out of life.

Bible Scriptures to Keep You Motivated

I’ll give you some Bible scriptures that you can reference if you want to stop wasting time and become who God created you to be.

If you want to stop wasting time, read the following scriptures.

  • Psalms 90:12. “Teach us to count our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart”
  • Ecclesiastes 3:11. “He has made everything appropriate to its time and put the timeless into their hearts, without men ever discovering, from beginning to end, the work which God has done.”
  • Colossians 4:5. “Be wise in the way you act with those who are not believers. Use your time in the best way you can.”
  • Ephesians 5:11. “Don’t waste your time on useless work, mere busywork, the barren pursuits of darkness. Expose these things for the sham they are.”
  • John 4:34. ” My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”

If you want to become who God created you to be, find time and go through the following scriptures.

  • Romans 8:28. “We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”
  • Exodus 9:16. ” But this is why I have spared you: to show you my power and to make my name resound throughout the earth.”
  • Job 42:2. ” I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be hindered. “
  • Proverbs 19:21. “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the decision of the Lord that endures.”
  • John 6:44. “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him and I will raise him on the last day”

Jesus finished His time on earth in a few years.

Proper time management has enemies like procrastination, lack of discipline, failing to plan and prepare, bad habits like poor management and self-management.

Do you value your time?

Time is a gift from God therefore time must get respect.

If you have ever felt like you have not gotten much done and you are running out of time, that’s because you are.

If you do not stop wasting time, you will squander away your youth and so many opportunities will swish past you while you stand there watching.

Any person who wants to know who God created them to be, should be ready to go to Him.

Find your identity in God and start living the best life you can possibly imagine.
